The AMD Ryzen 7 8700G is an 8-core desktop processor launched in January 2024. It is part of the Ryzen 7 lineup, utilizing the Zen 4 (Phoenix) architecture with Socket AM5. Thanks to AMD
Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), the core count is effectively doubled to 16 threads.

The Ryzen 7 8700G features 16MB of L3 cache and operates at a base clock of 4.2GHz, but can boost up to 5.1GHz depending on the workload. AMD manufactures the Ryzen 7 8700G on a 4nm production node using 25,000 million transistors. The silicon die of the chip is not fabricated at AMD, but at the TSMC foundry. The unlocked multiplier on the Ryzen 7 8700G can be freely adjusted, greatly simplifying overclocking as you can easily dial in any overclocking frequency.

With a 65W TDP, the Ryzen 7 8700G consumes typical power levels for a modern PC. This AMD processor supports DDR5 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 5200 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules), you can push it even higher. ECC memory is also supported, which is an essential feature for mission-critical systems to prevent data corruption. To communicate with other components in the system, the Ryzen 7 8700G uses a PCI-Express Gen 4 connection.
